OUR TOP TIPS FOR FINDING YOUR DREAM VENUE

full group shot at wedding

This month we’ve been diving into venues- the good, the bad, and the sneaky hidden fees (like that £10 per slice cake-cutting charge). So, we’re bringing you OUR TOP TIPS FOR FINDING YOUR DREAM VENUE…

  1. Set Your Budget!

Seriously, before you start swooning over venues, know your budget. Be realistic about what you can afford and what you’re actually comfortable spending! Want help keeping track? Our Big Wedding Budget digital download will keep your budget organised and under control.

2. What’s Important To You?

Think about what you really want from your venue. Location? Licensed venue? Allows external catering? Nice grounds? No noise restrictions? Use these non-negotiables to narrow down your options - equally, what are you willing to compromise on?

3. Do Your Research (Beyond The Website)

Venues will always show their best bits online, so dig a little deeper. Be sure to read reviews, and not just skim the five-star ones. Look at the responses to any negative reviews, how a venue handles criticism says a lot. Also check social media, especially tagged photos. Real weddings will give you a clearer idea of how the venue actually looks in action. And ask your suppliers (if you already have suppliers in mind) and ask them which venues they love working with. They’ll have insider knowledge that you won’t find in a brochure.

4. What’s Included (and What’s Not)?

Be crystal clear on what’s part of the package and what will cost extra. Is catering included? What about tables, chairs, crockery? Is there a service charge? Will they charge you extra just to cut your own cake? (Yes, really). Our Venue Hunter helps you compare all of this so you don’t get caught out later!

5. Trust Your Gut!

If something feels off, don’t ignore it. A venue might tick all the right boxes on paper, but if you leave a viewing feeling unsure or overwhelmed by restrictions, listen to your instinct. If the staff seem unhelpful or disinterested now, imagine dealing with them on your wedding day! Essentially, if it’s not a hard yes, it’s a hard no.

Arguably, finding a wedding venue is the most crucial part of wedding planning. It will dictate many of your further decisions so don’t take it lightly. It’s like buying a house - t may not be perfect, the location may not be exactly where you imagine, but the price is better. It may need a bit more decor than you imagined, but have the date you want available.
Don’t rush this part - it’s a biggie!
